THE DEFINATION OF SUCCESS

The definition of success to me is peace.  The big house, money, cars, and business makes no success to me.  My peace is growing past the moment that I find out that not all guys are like my father.  My father is a kind, successful, and funny man.  At seventeen, I realized that not all me n are like my father.  Some men are just scum and care nothing for you.

In my adulthood, I pray that I grow pat that clueless girl.  I pray that I see not knowing better at the time and being Ok with it.  I pray living past that moment that I allowed to define me for many years.  It is only then that I will be at peace.  I will have success. I am on the pathway to finally getting there. Thank you the Lord for my therapy through dance. It kept me a float all these years.  My new work this spring will be "I am".

Delegating

Hello Dancers and Dance Supporters,

The drum classes and ballet classes did begin and I learned a valuable lesson.  I learned how to delegate.  In the mix of everything of choreographing, setting up classes, and dancing, I realize that I need help.  So, I go to my dance moms (parents of the dance students).  We sat down on a Friday evening and discussed the schedule of the upcoming months. It all settled to a good plan for Spring Semester.  I appreciate my dance moms and they believe in the vision.  I could not have it better. Special thanks to Ms. Pettis, Ms. Scott, and Ms. Stocks. 

For the upcoming months, we will have the drum class, ballet classes, and rehearsals for the competition and performances. We have everything set for the Spring. It will be a Spring. Next performance June 1, 2012 save the date.

Moving Forward

MufukaWorks has grown in the two years.  In April, we will be expanding the program and bring two more teachers for drumming and ballet.  This week, we will be having a Master Class by Deborah Maine.  More and more, people are getting the mission that I started a long time ago.  As a director, I am happy at this time. To reflect, the timing has brought my business to the next level.

ITS THEIR TIME

In November, my students had their first performance entitled "Invisible".  It was a performance held right in the recreation center (Albemarle Recreation Center-5027 N. Idlewild Rd Charlotte, NC).  The also hold their weekly class there.  From that performance, I decided after only 4 months of them dancing.  It was time to expose them more.  Quietly, I had applied them to a local competition here in Charlotte, NC.  These dancers made it.  It will be their first major event also they get to a weekend full of master classes.  To support your favorite dancers, please purchase tickets at http://www.blumenthalarts.org/default.asp?blumenthal=59&objId=3616

Deborah Maine was introduced to dance at the age of 11 in the public schools of Beaufort, South Carolina. Maine continued her studies after high school at Coker College where, she was introduced to Wanda Ebright, Assistant Professor of Dance and, later became a founding member of The Wanda Project. While studying at Coker College, Maine was given the opportunity to study dance history abroad in Barbados, West Indies under the instruction of Ian Douglas and The National Culture Foundation. While there Maine gathered native movement to choreograph The Misconception of the Roots, her senior thesis project which; also won the African American Studies Specialization Learning Across the Disciplines Award for its representation of the African American experience.

After graduating from Coker Maine, went on to pursue a professional career with Walt Disney World’s Festival of the Lion King and Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade. Upon departure Maine went on to dance with Philadelphia Dance Company’s apprentice company DII under the direction of Donald T. Lunsford. Maine is embracing new endeavors throughout the city of Charlotte and looks forward to the upcoming season with 4^th Right Dance and Sycamore Dance Company.
